While many are filled with euphoria on festive days and thus
expend their time in hanging out with their loved ones in ritzy places, Rotary
club of Onigbongbo chose to extend a hand of love to the patients of Federal
Neuropsychiatric hospital, Yaba, on Christmas day.
This act of benevolence which was said to have become a
yearly tradition ever since its inception about 30 years ago, was claimed to be
one of the club’s ways of contributing positively to the growth of the nation.
According to the president of the club, Rtrn. Olanrewaju
Wilton-Waddel, the hospital is so endeared to the club which has helped to
strengthen the cordiality that exists between the duo over the years. In light
of this, he said that the club has done a great number of incalculable things
for the hospital.
Furthermore, the medical director of the infirmary, Dr.
Rahman Lawal expressed his profound gratitude to all the patrons and supporters
of the institution and urged them not to relent in their humanitarian services.
He further divulged that many of the incentives garnered by the hospital
overtime are products of its benefactors.
The club however donated 15 mattresses and pillows to the
hospital. Some donors among others were Pio vision club with the donation of
100 pillows, bed sheets and pillow cases; Ladies Helpers Union of Christ Church
Cathedral, Marina, gave out some dishes and confectionaries to the patients.
In the same vein, one of the major philanthropists of the
hospital, Dr. Segun Abraham, promised to build a half-way home for the hospital
by next year.
